Top Ten Signs You Had too Much to Drink

Being that we have had some pretty serious, depressing political rants on here lately, I thought I would lighten it up a little bit. So I decided to post some very important public safety information regarding knowing when you have had too much to drink.

    Geology jobs and Christian colleges

Posted in Environment, Science Education, Geology at 7:59 pm by Kevin

    From geology.com/news:

The number of professional jobs in the oil and gas industry exceeds the number of qualified and available workers. In 1982, enrollment in the geosciences hit an all time high of 35,000 students but today the number has dwindled to about 5,000. Salaries are generous, however the industry does not have a rosy image with the public and that dampens the number of students who declare a geoscience major. Combine the lack of new graduates with a workforce that is mainly over 50 and starting to retire and the shortage of talent becomes critical.

Will Durst’s Incredible, Inexhaustible Rant on Bush

Will Durst’s Incredible, Inexhaustible Rant on Bush

I came across this video on alternet.org of the incredibly talented Will Durst. This video just about says it all. I couldn’t wait to put it on our blog because Will Durst, known as the “thinking man’s comic”, says just about everything I have ever thought about George W. Bush in a couple of very long sentences. Durst’s incredible rant is reminiscent of George Carlin’s intelligent and satirical rants about foul language or any of his other irreverent diatribes against the social/political machine. Will Durst is the man who the New York Times described as “the best political satirist working in America”. He is currently starring in his Off-Broadway show called The All-American Sport of Bipartisan Bashing. Part of this clip showcases his marvelous talent for incisive observation and spot-on analysis of the Bush administration. It is simply delightful and definitely worth checking out. To watch the video…go here.

    To Infinity and Beyond

The Hubble Deep Field: The galaxies in this image
are really far away, but not as far away as the edge of
    the universe.

I am going to spend the next couple of months addressing the questions asked by readers at the end of my late-July post. I’ll start with the question that prompted the solicitation to begin with. Two months ago, my friend Taron emailed me to ask “How large is the universe?”

    America’s Constant Meddling Hurting Iraq
    Written by 2000l, August 27th, 2007

    America’s Constant Meddling Hurting Iraq

When I read the criticism being aimed at Nouri al-Maliki in Iraq last week, I couldn’t help but think how we can further screw up a mess that is already fatally screwed up. What is particularly disturbing are remarks that were made by Senator John Warner who after spending two days in Iraq, unequivocally stated that Maliki needs to go. Now, don’t get me wrong. Maliki doesn’t appear to be the man for the job. But after all, that should be left up to the Iraqi people. He is a duly elected Prime Minister of a sovereign nation and a bold, new democracy that we propped up…uh, I mean that we helped get established. So, who are we to say who stays in charge or not? This is similar to calls for partitioning of Iraq on the part of U.S. politicians as though Iraq were some sort of offshore American colony. I firmly believe our constant meddling is what is hurting Iraq the most. But the U.S. government seems to be completely obsessed with not only preemptive democracy, but constant meddling. When will we ever learn?

The World Trade Center Collapse Conspiracy
    Written by 2000l, August 26th, 2007

The World Trade Center Collapse Conspiracy

    Snipped from newsvine.com.

Okay guys, I’m not into conspiracy theories but this article really caught my attention. First of all, it is written by a mechanical engineer from the U.K. who I wouldn’t think would have any particular agenda. And, second of all, even though the math is way above my head, it looks real. For any of you mechanical engineers or physicists out there, maybe you can share your knowledge on this subject. This has to do with why the total collapse of the World Trade Center Towers goes against basic physics laws. But I guess, the real question is, if the towers didn’t collapse from the impact/explosion of the airplanes, what did make them collapse and exactly who was behind it?

The original Futurama ? dreams of futures past
    Written by 2000l, August 26th, 2007

Long before the animated TV series, the original Futurama was a non-ironic look into the marvels of the future. In this case, though, the year was 1939. The Great Depression had been dragging on for a decade, and the horrors of World War II were yet to emerge. Optimism was the main course on the menu.

At the World Fair in New York, the General Motors pavilion featured Futurama — a look at the wonders of the far-off world of 1960! In this thrilling vision of the future, 7-lane superhighways are everywhere (mind you, in 1939, most roads in the U.S. were still unpaved), car traffic is rendered safe through radio-based driving control systems (!), “most towns” have electricity, and airports rotate on a pool of liquid and feature giant dirigible hangars!.
